today's lesson in philosophy:
was she really mentally ill? or did she intentionally do it?
the issue today is: Is Andrea Yates guilty? or Is she not responsible due to a mental "disability"?
i was told today that I think like a prosecutor.
go-figure being a D.A. is what I've been considering.
lol.
so yes, this is my argument:
Andrea Yates knew what she was doing b/c she chased 4 of her 5 children around the house. Locking them in rooms as she drowned one child at a time. A person have a psychotic moment, would have drowned one child in the spur of the moment. Maybe even 2 kids. 5? i think not. You see, she locked her children in the room(s) after chasing them, drowned them, and then just went on with the rest of her day.
Do I think the husband is also to blame? yes. As a spouse, it is your duty/ responsiblity to care for your family. Children and spouse included. He did not allow his wife to be on birth control b/c he wanted more children and he thought it was "God's gift" to them. Andrea did make it clear that she did not wish to have anymore. As a respectful wife, she honored her husband's wishes. As her spouse, as someone who was with her on a daily basis, he should have been there for her. Offered moral support with her depression. Helped her, or found her someone to help her.
Funny how we can look at this from the outside, and judge. But in my PERSONAL OPINION. I do not understand how you can grow these children inside of you, nurture them for years/months, and then just kill them. Have you no love for something/someone who has your blood running through their little veins?
just thought i'd share. any thoughts?
